Moray Map: Bilbohall

The Bilbohall Estate gets it's name from the farm which used to be situated to the west side of the area. Until 36 years ago the Estate was little more than farmland, with a dirt track which began at Edgar Road where Arnold Clark is now and continued up the hill until it met onto Sandy Road.On the other side of the dirt track was another small farm "Springfield" which is where the people of New Elgin could go for fresh vegetables and farm produce at the "Springfield Market". This is now known as "Springfield Gardens" and is a private housing estate.

Work to build the Bilbohall Estate began 36 years ago, and we now have proper roads leading from Edgar Road right up to the top of New Elgin, as for the dirt track well it's still there but it has a paved surface these days. The market may have gone but there is a small shopping complex, with a supermarket; a newsagents; a chip shop; a Chinese takeaway and not forgetting the Springfield Bar.

To the east of the estate there are two schools, Greenwards Primary and Elgin High School which is soon to be extended to incorporate a huge new sports facility and a preforming arts area. To the South there is Cedarwood which is a modern new building which provides day care for the disabled. Next to Cedarwood are the Wards wetlands which is a conservation area and home to many species of birds and animals. Specially constructed paths lead people round this area, and it is very poular with dog walkers and people who like to go for a stroll in the countryside.

The members of the Blbohall Estate forum are very proud of their area, and for the past 10 years have given a lot of time to ensure that the residents of the estate enjoy it too.

10 miles to the south of Elgin is the Parish of Rothes, which is beautifully situated on the west bank of the River Spey. It is nestled in a valley and is bounded to the south and south west by Aberlour home of the shortbread company Walkers, and Knockando where one of the oldest weaving mills in the country is based. To the west is the village of Dallas and on the north side are Birnie;Elgin;Clachmarras and Lhanbryde.

Rothes is also home to three distilleries all producing malt whisky these are, Glen Grant ,Glenrothes and the Speyburn.
